Arts & Crafts in Nebraska

In an effort to further empower and enrich our people, the Create-ables program was developed and incorporated into our organization and service offerings.

In an effort to further empower and enrich the people we support, the Create-ables program was developed and incorporated into our organization and service offerings. Through Create-ables, we are working toward building an “Inclusive Community for Creativity” — allowing people with developmental disabilities to enjoy teamwork with one another, as well as working alongside people without disabilities in order to promote inclusion and develop useful life and vocational skills.

The projects created through our Create-ables program can be found at local art events, craft shows, and pop-up shops throughout the area.

Hands of Heartland has always emphasized the importance of creative interaction between people with developmental disabilities and others in the community. Our studio supports our mission of inclusion by empowering the people we support as creative individuals. Create-Ables is open to the public and allows people without disabilities to create and design artistic pieces with the assistance of individuals with disabilities.
Work Bench
One way that we enrich our Create-ables program is through our fully operational woodshop here at Hands of Heartland. Our woodshop is a safe, inclusive place that provides support and assistance for people as they develop the creative pieces ordered by the public.
Enclaves
Our enclave program is a wonderful opportunity for people with developmental disabilities to work within larger companies, practice vocational skills, and earn money. A steppingstone to community employment, the enclave program allows individuals with developmental disabilities to work alongside others without a disability, which helps prepare them for the workforce.
